Wild

Overview

When National Geographic approached me to document the wildlife of the African savannah, I knew this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The goal was to create a visual narrative that not only showcased the beauty of these animals but also highlighted the urgent need for conservation.

Client Background

National Geographic is a globally recognized organization dedicated to exploring and protecting our planet. They wanted a series of images that would tell the story of the African savannah’s most iconic species—lions, elephants, and giraffes—while shedding light on the challenges they face due to habitat loss and poaching.

Challenges Faced

Capturing intimate, never-before-seen moments of wildlife in their natural habitat

Balancing artistic storytelling with scientific accuracy

Raising awareness about conservation efforts without being overly preachy
The harsh conditions and unpredictable behavior of the animals added an extra layer of complexity.

The Approach

I spent three months living in the Maasai Mara National Reserve, immersing myself in the environment and gaining the trust of the local guides and researchers. Here’s how I approached the project:

Equipment: Canon EOS-1D X Mark III, 600mm f/4 lens for close-ups without disturbing the animals.

Lighting: Relied entirely on natural light, often shooting during golden hour for dramatic effects.

Patience: Spent hours, sometimes days, waiting for the perfect moment.
